           Before I came to Saipan, I used to go to big school in Korea. Our school had about 40 students in one class, and there were about 10 classes in one grade. It was pretty big, so I had many students that I don’t even know names. The school that I am going now on Saipan is very small compared to my previous school. Our class is the only class for juniors and we have about 30 people in our class. The important thing is that our class is the biggest class in our school in fact that our school is really small. I prefer small schools to big schools for several reasons.

           First of all, teachers can give more attention to students individually. In big schools, teachers cannot pay attention to every student individually because there are too many students. However, in small school, since there are much less students, teachers have more time to interact each student. It is good for students to contact teachers and be close to teachers because they will eventually feel comfortable to ask what they want to know and thus they will be intellectually developed.

           Secondly, closer friendships are created among classmates in small schools. In small school, even though the grade is changed, the class is still the same. However, big schools change the class every year. In Korea, I always hated the first day of school because I am not very good at talk first to the strangers. On the first day of school in every year, everyone in the class is strangers except when one of my friends is put into same class as I. However, I don’t feel any awkwardness or uncomfortable feelings because I already know everyone in our class. Since our classmates have known each other for at least 2 years, we are pretty close to each other. Thus, there is no bullying in our class because everyone is everyone’s friends. In big schools, a lot of bullying goes on. However, in small school, there is much less bullying than bullying in big schools.

           I like to imagine myself 10 years later in marriage. I’ve always wanted to have 2 sons and 1 daughter. I even have thought about what names I would give to my sons and daughter. Also, I once have thought about things that my kids have to learn. What I want to teach my kids is manners, patience, and ability to work on their own.

           First of all, the most important thing is the manner. I don’t want my children to be like who don’t behave in front of the elders, and also, friends. Behaving to the elders is common sense that they have to have. However, many people don’t have manner when they are with friends. However, I think even between friendships, it is important to have manner such as not saying anything that would hurt friend’s feelings or thinking about on friend’s position. I want my children to get along well with people around them.

           Secondly, I believe that without patience, people cannot achieve anything good. For example, students have to study with patience. They can’t just be smart at once. It is important to know how to wait until people get something. With this lesson, I will also give lessons about “no pain, no gain” to my children. I realize “no pain, no gain,” is so true in our lives.  Everyone has to have patience in pain to gain something.

           Finally, I will teach my children ability to work on their own. It is really important to work on their own when they go to school, especially high school. It is really different between middle school and high school. In high school, the education become much harder and there is a lot of homework that they have to do it on their own. I want to train my children before they go to middle school so they will get used to work on their own. Also, I want my children care about their grades. There are lots of students who don’t even care what they are getting for their grades, and I think it’s horrible. I want my children to work hard, and be a nice students.

           When I was in Korea, our school had uniforms. Every middle schools and high schools in Korea have uniforms, but what about Saipan? Personally, I disagree with having uniform at SIS. Of course there are many advantages of uniforms, but, there are more disadvantages than advantages of school uniforms.

           First of all, Saipan is too hot to have a proper uniform. If there would be uniforms, those uniforms have to look proper, not just t-shirt and pants. I think SIS will not make uniforms that have shirt and vest, but more comfortable one, the collar shirts. However, in Saipan, wearing a collar shirt is too hot. Collar shirt is made of relatively thick fabric than other cotton fabric. SIS might set an ordinary T-shirt as uniform, but that doesn’t have any point of having uniforms at all. Uniforms are meant to be showing uniformity and formal attitude, but T-shirt just look like a PE uniform. Thus, it is better to not have uniform than having improper uniform.

           Second reason of not having uniform is that students have the right to express themselves. Students can express themselves freely through lots of ways. Dressing is one of those ways to show who they are. This is the biggest reason why most of the students protest against having uniform. Some students might think that they can reform the uniform to their own styles, but I don’t think SIS would let us do it. We have dress code, and it can be said little conservative. I don’t think students can express freely through uniforms by reforming it because SIS would not give students the right to be free to reform it.

           Finally, personally, I think whenever private school has uniforms, it looks that the school is religious school. SIS is not a religious school. In Saipan, every private religious school has uniforms. The fact that SIS is only school that has no uniforms among the private schools in Saipan differentiate SIS from other schools. It makes SIS look more liberate school than other schools. Thus, it is better not to have uniforms at SIS.

           I believe PE uniform, not just uniforms, is necessary to have for SIS students. Since every grade has PE class, and it’s very hot out there, students might feel comfortable if they have PE uniform.

I also learned about Sion community from “The Da Vinci Code” which the book says it is the organization that Leonardo da Vinci was a grand master. I am very curious that if every information about that organization in the book is true or not. Thus, I want to invite Leonardo da Vinci and ask him what I am curious about.

 Especially, I want to ask him about his great work, “Mona Lisa”. “Mona Lisa” is a very controversial picture over who the model is. Some people even claimed that the model of “Mona Lisa” is actually a male. I was very shocked when I heard that. I really want to know who the model of “Mona Lisa” is, and more importantly, about her eyebrows. The model of “Mona Lisa” is very popular because of her eyebrows. She doesn’t have eyebrows. Leonardo da Vinci is well-known perfectionist who always tried to revise his work to make it perfect. I think there is some hidden meaning in absence of her eyebrows.

I want to serve modern food to da Vinci. Da Vinci is from the Renaissance, and I bet he has never tried any modern food like Coke, KFC, or Ice cream. I’m pretty sure he only has tried old food like boiled potato, or salted fish. I want to introduce him how world has changed. Besides serving modern food, I also want to show him the movie, “The Da Vinci Code”. This movie is based on the book “The Da Vinci Code,” and same as the book, the movie shows a lot of da Vinci’s great work. He would enjoy and feel new when he watch the movie of his life.

             There are several ways to define beauty. Some people demand nice appearance that interests people is beauty while some people demand that inner beauty is a true beauty. I personally think both of them have to be fulfilled in order to become a perfectly beautiful person. Even if a person is really beautiful and pretty with outer appearance, and has bad personalities and lack of common sense, that person cannot be said as a perfectly beautiful person.

             It would be depend on how other people think, but beauty of appearance is quite easy to measure. Beautiful appearance is a balanced appearance. What balanced appearance means is that a person has to have balance on his/her face, body or overall proportion. When the appearance is balanced, the other people feel comfortable with that person and get interests about the person. The beauty of outer appearance’s function is to attract people first because people get interests of pretty, handsome faces.

             However, that kind of attraction does not last long unless that person’s inner side is also beautiful. People love handsome or pretty people at first, but as time pasts, they see inner side like personalities or mind, and if his/her inner side is very bad, people would not like that person and do not think of that person as a beautiful person. Thus, Beauty does not only mean pretty or handsome, but competent mind and nice personalities, also.

             People who want to be beautiful have to know that they also have to make their inner side beautiful, not only the appearances. Recently, people are spending more money for plastic surgery just in order to make themselves prettier or more handsome. However, if they really want to be truly beautiful, they have to spend more time to improve their inner beauty because most of them do not have improved their inner beauty while they tried so hard to make their body shape perfect or to make their skin cleaner.

             It might be hard to improve the inner beauty. However, without beautiful inner side, a person can never be truly beautiful. Inner beauty is actually more important than appearance because ugly inner side will eventually make appearance ugly. Thus, definition of beauty does not only deal with the outer appearance, but inner side also.

             I have once played “Sims-Castaway” with Nintendo DSL. It was a kind of game that I have to help a character to escape an island. What I learned from that is that three important things to have when I am stranded on an island are a nice, strong knife, a big lighter that has strong fire, and a person that I can talk to.

 
 

             First of all, I chose a strong knife for survival tool. A knife is really useful on an island. If I attach it on the edge of a long branch, it can be a spear that I can go spearfishing with. Also, knife is necessary when I get fruits from wild forest. Fruits are great resource of water. In case of that island has no drinkable water, it is important to get fruits and get water from it. Gathering fruits might be hard without knife especially the fruit is on the tree or is attached with a really strong stem. The most important thing about a knife is that I can protect myself and I can get meat from wild animals. Meat is nice source of protein for my health.

             Seocnd thing that I want to bring is a big lighter. In that game, the character made the fighter with he has on the island, the two branches. I want to have a lighter that can generate a big flame, so I can use it. I will use fire for keeping the temperature, but also, to cook. It would be impossible to cook without fire, thus fire is really important.

             Third thing, actually not a thing, is a person who I can have conversation with. I personally think that being stranded on an island alone can cause problem such as like depression because we will be so lonely on an island. I want to have a person who I can have fun time with, so I won’t feel lonely and scared on an island. Having a friend there itself will help me to survive from being stranded on an island because that person will give me some encourage to live with that person together on the island.

             With those 3 things, I think I will be able to survive. As like in the game, I will find my own way to survive as the time pasts. Sims-castaway was my one of favorite games and that game really helped me with writing this.

             I have never thought about what I would put on my tombstone later days because I don’t want to die. I want to live as long as I can. Also, I don’t want to die from nasty diseases like cancer. If I have to die, I want to die without pain. Anyways, I will think about what I would put on my tombstone because it is today’s topic for journalism class.

       When I have to decide what would I put on my tombstone, I will be pretty old. Also, I would have sons or daughters and even grandchildren. However, by that time, my parents would have passed away, and I would have been missing them for a long time. Thus, I want to put something about my parents on my tombstone at first. I want to write how much I loved them and how much I missed them. So, it will be like this; Mom and Dad, it is time for me to stay with you guys in the heaven. I missed you guys so much and I am happy that I can finally see you guys again. I always loved you guys and I will always love you guys.

       Secondly, I want to write something about my family. I will put what I want to say to my husband, my children, and my grandchildren. I want to tell them some kind of lesson based on what I experienced for a long time. (maybe more than 100 year because I want to live more than 100 years.) I think I will have same motto as what I have now at that time which is “Don’t regret if you already did and don’t do something that you will regret.” I think this is helpful to solve problems especially when I have to decide something. I will tell this to my children and grandchildren so they will not make a wrong decision when an important situation comes. For my husband, I will say that I love him and tell him to take care of our children and grandchildren.

        
Some people say that they don’t want to live until they become really old, like about 80 years old. Instead of that, they said that they just want to live until like 70’s. I really don’t understand those people. I want to live as long as I can. I really wish that medical technology will improve more and then I can live for a really long time. The reason why that I want to live as long as I can is that I don’t want to be apart from people I love. I will not be able to see people who I love again after I die, and that is so sad. I want to put it as later as I can.

     Electronic devices such as televisions and cell phones brought a lot of changes into our world.  Before electronic devices, people at the far distance had to use mail which is a lot slower than e-mail or phone call. Also, there are some people who had absolutely no idea of what is happening at the opposite side of the earth. However, now, great ways to interact with people such as televisions and cell phones enabled people to know each other more and communicate one another easier. Personally, I think television has brought more influential changes to the world than telephone did.

      Of course, telephone also brought significant effect to people’s lives, but, television has brought more. Telephone simply gave easy way to communicate or contact to someone whoever wants to contact. On the other hand, television has affected several aspects of communication such as cultural communication or educational communication.

             First of all, televisions allowed people to see what happens to other people even though they are far away from them. Through televisions, people see how other people in different country live with different culture. Especially, places like Africa and several tribes in Africa were hidden from outer world, thus people in modern society had no way to see what their culture is and how they survive in Africa. Now, through televisions, people are able to learn other country’s cultures that were hard to learn.

             Secondly, people can share emotions or information through television. TV shows or drama entertains people but also, people can share their emotions. What people usually do is that after they watch TV shows or drama, they discuss about it and share what they felt from it. TV shows sometimes entertain people, but sometimes they show people touching stories that make them cry. Through televisions, people can feel different kind of emotion.

             Finally, people can learn many things from television. People cannot be educated on telephone, but with televisions, they have no problem to learn something. There are many kinds of educational programs on TV, and it is really helpful to learn something new because TV uses visualization and people can learn something easier when they see something, rather than read something.

      In my opinion, the best definition of word “success” from dictionary.com is the accomplishment one’s goals. When I was young, I used to think that “success” simply means a lot of money. I thought if someone is a rich, that person is living in a successful life. However, now I don’t think money is all that gives people success. Now I think that success has to deal with everything that satisfies people’s hope.

For example, even if a person is a rich guy and living in a huge, fancy mansion, it doesn’t mean success if that person is lonely because they don’t have family. Emotional satisfaction also has to be achieved in order to have a successful life. Emotional satisfaction plays important role for humans to work effectively and achieve what they want. People who are emotionally sad cannot concentrate or focus on what they have to do and thus it lowers the efficiency.

           Also, health is also important. Healthy body is needed for almost everything. For example, we have to be healthy in order to be able to eat anything we want to. If we are sick, there will be so many limitations of what we can do to make our life happy and successful. A life spending most of time in hospital cannot be a successful life unless that person really enjoys it. Most of the people feel sad about disease they have and that can lead to serious metal problem of depression. Thus, health can determine both of emotional satisfaction and economic success.

           Sometimes people still feel happy even if they are poor. If a person satisfies everything about his/her life and appreciates whatever he/she has now, that person’s life is considered to be a successful life. People do not have to rich in order to achieve success. Some people still demand that money is everything, but that is wrong. Of course, economic ability is really vital for people to do what they want and satisfy their need. However, richness does not directly mean success. There are so many rich people who are not happy about their life and so many people who are completely happy about their life even though they are poor.

           It depends on people to define success, but generally when a person is living in a happy, satisfied life, it can be considered as success. Everyone has to work hard and try hard to be successful. Sometimes other people can help people who seek for success, but most of the success is achieved by their own work. It can be said ridiculous to want other people to achieve successful life for them. Thus, people should work as hard as they can in order to achieve their goals and be living in a successful life.

# 12 bucket list

       Bucket list is defined as a list of things to do before you die and it came from the term “kicked the bucket” in urbandictionary.com. I have not thought about my bucket list yet, but today’s prompt is about my bucket list so I brought up several things that can be in my bucket list and should be done before I die.

           The very first thing of my bucket list is to design my own bed. Bed is one of my favorite things and I really want to make one someday. I want to make a bed that cover 3 sides and half of one side surround me. I feel cozy and comfortable when I am surrounded by something, so I want to make a 3 and a half walled bed that would make me sleep well and deeply in a comfy place. I also have second design for my dream bed. The second design is a bed that is hanging down from the ceiling. I want to put 4 strong ropes on the bed and make the bed float in the air. It would give me feelings of that I’m flying while I’m sleeping. I would definitely make my own bed when I become an adult and have my own home.

           Second thing of my bucket list is to do bungee jumping. I did not decide where to do it, but I really want try bungee jumping someday. 3 years ago, I saw two of my cousins doing bungee jumping. They wanted me to do it together, but I was so afraid of it and I didn’t do it. I regretted so much that I didn’t do it together with my cousin after they talked about how the bungee jumping was. So, I decided to do it someday when I am ready. My cousins did it in Korea, and they said everything looked beautiful while they were doing the bungee when actually the view wasn’t quite good. I want to go to other country that has the nicest view in the world and do the bungee jumping. I want to do it before I become 30 years old because I should not be old to do bungee because it would be dangerous.

           Finally, the last thing of my bucket list is to work for endangered animals. My favorite animal is sea otter. One day, I saw an article about sea otters that people think that sea otters love people and that is why they break the shells and give it to people. However, the truth was that the sea otters give shells to show that they are giving their favorite thing to people and they want them not to hunt sea otters. So, they are like “I will give you this, so please don’t take me away from my family.” That hurt my feelings so badly and I felt really sorry about many endangered animals. Also, harp seals, the cutest creatures ever, are seriously endangered from overhunting for their white, soft fur. It is so sad that harp seals were originally friendly animals that love people, but after people began hunt many of them, harp seals became to be afraid of people. Now, I can’t really help people who work for endangered animals because I am a high school student. I’ll help animals when I become an adult and have stable life so that I have time to help them seriously. 

#11 SUPER POWER

                 

 
After I watched movie “click,” I thought that it would be awesome if I have time-control ability. In the movie, the guy has remote control that can control the time. He could stop the time and do something bad to someone who he hates and he could also go back to past or go to future. He even could make the time go faster. It was so interesting while I was watching movie and that I really wanted that remote control. If I can have a superpower, I really want to have ability to control the time whenever I want.

           There would be so many benefits if I can control the time. First of all, I can help people I love. If one of my family member had car accident, I can easily go back to past and tell him/her how to avoid the accident. Also, If earthquake or tsunami comes, I can also go back to past again and make my family and friends go other place for safety.

           Secondly, there are so many good things for myself if I can handle time. It can be said cheating, but I can take the test first, memorize every question, go back to past, and take the test again. Also, If I do something wrong or make mistake, I can just easily go back before I did something wrong, and make it right. Whenever I do something that I hate, I can make time go faster and make it done very quickly. On the other hand, whenever I do something that I love so much, I can stop the time and do it until whenever I don’t want to do it anymore. Stopping time is good to do something to people that I hate. If I hate someone, I can stop the time and hit him/her as hard as I can, run away, and then make the time go again. Then that person would never know why he/she feel hurt somewhere.

           Finally, if I can control the time, I can experience culture of variety time periods. I really want to go back to middle age and see people in dress and weird wigs. I can be one of the people in that period and watch how they are different from present-days people. Also, I really want to know how the world looks like in the future. The best thing that I want to know in the future is what I become in the future and my future husband. I am so curious about what I will be when I am an adult and who I meet to be my husband.

           In the end of the movie, the guy throws his remote control away because he realized to thank every circumstance that is given to him. I also like my life just the way it is now, but my life would be much easier and happier If I have superpower to control the time whenever I want.

 

Cell phone usage at school

SIS also does not allow students to use cell phones just as most of the other schools. Schools do not allow cell phone usage for students because cell phone distracts students during the lecture and also, it disrupts the whole class. However, students constantly demand permit for cell phone usage saying that there are some situations that they have to use cell phones at school.

I strongly agree to allow students to use cell phones at school under certain circumstances.  For example, students have to use phone in order to call their parents if practice for volleyball is canceled.  Also, students should be able to call their parents when they are sick and need to go to home.  Schools say that they don’t necessarily have to allow cell phone usage at school for those circumstances because students can use school phone.  However, it would save money for school to just allow students to use their own cell phones instead of making them use school phone.

     It is definitely bad thing if a student uses cell phone during class. However, using cell phones during class can be preserved by giving students detention or punishment.  Schools do not have to ban cell phone usage for whole school time because if they tell students to not to use cell phones during class or they will get detentions or punishments, students would not use cell phones during class. Even though they use it during class, the students who used the phones will be the ones who would get educational disadvantage from that, so schools do not have to not allow other students who work hard during class for cell phone usage.

     Other reason that school should allow cell phone usage is that smart phones are sometimes advantageous for academic reason. Whenever students’ laptops do not connect to school’s internet, students can use smart phones’ internet because some students can us 3G or 4G. Also, there are lots of apps that are educationally helpful that students can use for class. For example, there is an app that shows human body parts and functions. That app helped me a lot when I was taking Biology class, especially human anatomy class, at school because that app had some kind of quizzes that I can check what I didn’t know and what I completely understood.

      

 
There are lots of schools that allow students to use laptops at schools but not cell phones. I personally think that this is ridiculous. This does not make sense at all for me because anything that students can do on the phone also can be done on laptop. Laptops can be worse because there are some programs that hide previous page that a person was looking at immediately when they want to. For example, even though a student was playing games during class, that student can easily hide that page when teacher is coming to him/her with one button and lie that he/she was doing research paper. On the other hand, teachers can easily see what students did on their phone because it is hard to erase history of what they did on with their phone quickly. Thus, teachers can check what students have done on their phone if they are suspicious about it.

          

3 things that will make your life perfect

           People have their own priorities. Some people say that reputation is the most important thing to have flawless life. On the other hand, people who work for poor people say that people should have generosity to have perfect life. In my opinion, health, love, and money are the most important thing for life. I think these three things would make my life perfect.

           First of all, Health is important for perfect life because health is the most basic thing for human. I should be healthy to enjoy something that I have. In other words, even if I am a millionaire and I got everything I want, I won’t be able to be happy if I am sick. If I am very sick to death, I won’t be able to have any happiness from my life. Also, I should be healthy in order to make other people who love me happy. I think perfect life has to be perfect for other people who I love and who love me. People who love me will not be happy if I am not healthy. I f I am very sick, people who love me will be living in sad days. I don’t think I will not have perfect life with making my lovers fall into sadness.

           Secondly, love is also vital to live in happy life. I don’t mean just husband and wife. I also mean love between parents and their children or love between siblings. I believe that people should have someone to love in order to live in satisfied life. Without lovers, life would be miserable and unemotional. Having someone to love is a grateful thing because it would bring people brightness and happiness. Everyone laughs and smiles when they are with their lovers. Smile and laugh help people to be healthy, which is also the most important thing for perfect life. Having lovers is as important as being healthy for satisfied life.

          
            Finally, people should be able to have enough money to afford perfect life. People don’t have to be a millionaire to be live in happiness, but do need to have enough economic ability to do something that will satisfy them. Money is important because too much money will be obstacle for perfect life and too less money will also be obstacle for perfect life. Too much money might cause problem in relationship between people and their lovers. Too much money is likely to cause fight between people. On the other hand, too less money might cause health problem. For example, if someone had a cancer and he/she does not have enough money to get surgery, it would ruin his/hers perfect life of health, love and money. Thus, it is very important to have enough amount of money for perfect life.
